What does effective professional development look like in a changing education system?

Curriculum reform in Kenya is bringing new demands for teachers and school leaders. This issue of The Learning Leader looks at how our programmes and partnerships are responding and what this means for teacher professional development in practice.

We share lessons from the Implementing National Curriculum Reforms through App-Based Learning for School Leaders in Secondary Education (INCREASE) programme on moving effective school leadership approaches from pilot to scale, including the experience of using blended learning to support school leaders across different contexts.

The issue also explores the work of the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RTIA), with a focus on gender-responsive pedagogy and Teach2Empower’s approach to bringing green and gender education together. Alongside these programme perspectives, contributors from government and partner organisations reflect on what it takes to make professional development more relevant, inclusive and sustainable.
