Technical Brief #8: Climate Change Education

Summary

While the consequences of climate change effect our wellbeing at large, they are particularly noticeable amongst the most vulnerable members of our society, including young people. Quality climate change education can play a pivotal role in reshaping the way we handle risks and effects of climate change. It can transform humankind’s relationship with nature to reverse environmental degradation.

The brief highlights how VVOB works with ministries, teacher training institutions, and local partners to build educator and school leader capacity for climate change education. Case studies from South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Ecuador, and global initiatives illustrate practical applications, from school gardens and eco-projects to challenge-based and locally rooted teaching. The publication shows how whole-school and whole-of-society approaches, grounded in professional development, enable educators and learners to take informed climate action and strengthen resilience.
