Restorative Practices in Education

his publication introduces restorative practices as a framework to build community, prevent conflict, and respond constructively to disruptive behaviour in educational settings. Developed under the Programa de Educación y Formación Técnica y Profesional, the manual provides theoretical and practical guidance for teachers, school counsellors, and education leaders to promote peaceful, inclusive school environments in Ecuador.

It explains proactive and reactive methodologies such as active listening, non-violent communication, restorative dialogue, emotional education, and restorative circles. These tools encourage empathy, accountability, and cooperation among students and educators. The publication aligns with UNESCO and UN recommendations to replace punitive disciplinary systems with restorative approaches, fostering positive relationships and strengthening well-being and inclusion in schools.
