Educating for Sustainability: Strengthening Technical Education for a Resilient Future

Summary

This publication presents the outcomes and lessons from the LORET (Local and Relevant Technical Education) project in Ecuador, implemented under VVOB’s Skilling for Sustainable Futures programme. The project aimed to strengthen the quality and relevance of technical upper secondary education by embedding environmental sustainability and local development priorities into the curriculum and teaching practice.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and local partners, the publication showcases how technical schools in Ecuador integrated sustainability themes—such as renewable energy, waste management, and sustainable agriculture—into their educational plans. It also highlights the use of project-based learning, partnerships with local industries, and teacher capacity-building to promote green skills and sustainable entrepreneurship. The report demonstrates how technical education can drive community resilience and sustainable economic growth.
